playing in EQ

I LOVE my EQ.  Like TOTALLY adore it.   I can design anywhere (now that my awesome sweetie bought me the best laptop backpack) and create some really neat stuff.   OR, I can just procrastinate.  And ya’ll, I put the PRO in that word!

A friend asked me to design some minis recently, and I have already messed with that a little.  While these patterns were still stewing, I saw one of those “bookshelf” quilts.  Yeah—you know exactly where my brain went!!!  bookcase small

Six 12 inch blocks!!   Mix and match!  This is fairly normal sized wall hanging at 2’x3′  But I have 4 kids!!   Don’t they ALL need a frame??bookcase mini

Now we are at 2’x4′  BUT (hehe) most real book cases are 5 shelves, right?   Soooo, let’s go FULL SIZE!bookcase mini large

There ya go!  3′ x 6′, full sized bookcase!  LOL  But NOW, there is too much repetition…maybe I need a few other blocks.   Other than books, what is on YOUR book shelves that I can try to create?  Tell me and we’ll see what I can come up with!

Sue Sweet!! Block 2 of Sue Through the Seasons

Good MORNING everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day.  I tend to celebrate all week.  Mostly food stuff, but the kids like it.  I have a few more of those to post.  But until then……..  Meet Sue Sweet!sunbonnet sue february dot

Isn’t she cute?   Notice the love letter in her hand!  This applique is a heart topiary, and the second applique pattern features a mailbox.  Once again, Dorothy Gautier did the sample.  I LOVE hourglasses.  And her choice of colors are always spot-on.  You can find the file here———> (Sue is no longer free….please find her at the ETSY store.)

Like last month, we ask that you simply leave a comment if you downloaded our pattern.  This link will be taken down on March 1st.  Since February is a short month, you better hurry!  Share, pin, and let your friends know!  New Sue is available in my Etsy store.

I have 3 big projects going on at the same time, and I hope to have pictures and finished products REAL soon!!  So stay tuned!

Happy Sue Year!!

IMG_0355

Happy Sue Year!  Isn’t that just adorable?  hehe   Ok, so it’s not showing much.  But I want to let you all know that Stitches and Kisses are still on track!!  Sun Bonnet Sue Through the Seasons will start Tuesday as planned.

Here are the details.

1) Each block will be 12 inch finished.
2) Each block is mostly paper pieced.  The other half will be applique.   It IS possible to only do the paper pieced Sues, but they won’t be nearly as cute!!!
3) We are creating samples from each of the blocks (remember Witchy Sue as a pillow?) but next January you will receiving finishing instructions for a KICKBUTT quilt top.
4) The blocks will be released on the 15th of each month.   You will have access to a free download until the end of the month.  There will be 2 ways to get the free download.   First, I will hook it up through paypal so Dorothy and I can keep track of how many have saved the pattern.  If you do NOT have a paypal account, then please leave me a comment or shoot me an email and I will email you the pattern.
5) All back order patterns will be available for a small price here via paypal.

Does all of this make sense??  I sure hope so!!   I am SOOOO excited about this project.   I suspect Stitches and Kisses will take off with our new enterprise!!   In the mean time, Butterfly Angels is trying to figure out a pattern similar to the Skating Sue…..a scene of sorts.  But I have to decide what I want.   Sew Hooked is an amazing designer.  I managed to expand on her main block.   Time to do my own!!

Here is another shot of the sample.   I LOVE my partner!!  IMG_0353

She made mine a Saints Sue Year!!!!

Witchy Sue–A FREE Paper Pieced Pattern

I am super excited to announce the debut of

Stitches and Kisses

Dorothy Gautier and I have joined our brains, and are creating the CUTEST series.   This is just the first of many.  We are not sure of the exact format, but keep your eyes open.

So here she is!   Our first Baby–Witchy Sue!  PDF file is here—–>Sunbonnet Witchy Sue

This is the same block in fabric!

Isn’t she SWEET?  And here is Dorothy’s version.   We have made a few changes since she made this, but you can see how the fabrics she used gave the project a different look.  The FLY and broomstick were both from a magazine about 3 years ago.   If anyone can identify the magazine issue, PLEASE let me know so we can offer proper credit.

I made mine into a pillow slip cover.

Isn’t Sue perfect?

Just remember that Stitches and Kisses will be releasing more stuff as the months go on.  Keep your eyes pealed!   Dot and I are AWESOME together!!!

Wedding ring, English Paper Piecing project

My Bloomerie fat 1/8th bundle came in.  Not quite what I expected, but the colors are great.  I expected more of a weight, a heft, to the fabric.  I sure hope this holds up.  But anyway, I decided on the Wedding ring design that I saw on Connecting Threads.  But I didn’t have the TIME to order their paper templates.  So EQ and I got busy!

I decided on 6 inch blocks, but I’m pretty sure I’ll end up with a LOT more than the blocks shown above.  Each of those templates are TINY!!

Now, do I pin the paper to the fabric, or do I try gluing it together?  And then, can I glue BASTE it, or should I still thread baste before sewing together???  Hmmm—SO many options, huh?  A few more minutes of research should make my mind up for me.  Unless YOU have some ideas??

The purpose of this is that my Hexi project is TOO big for me to take anywhere (also the reason why it’s not DONE yet) and I have an event with The Apprentice this weekend.  There’s a nifty program called PreTeen America.

because no one wants TOO many words in a row!

Yes, I know, it sounds like a beauty pageant.  but I assure you, it’s not.  The first half of the scoring is based on grades, standardized test scores, volunteer work, and other awards.  Once the girls get there, there is a General Knowledge test, interviews, and a very VERY short onstage presentation.

arbitrary pic of Barefoot, airing herself out!

Last year, the Apprentice tied for 3rd place!  She also did a State Costume Contest.  That was fun to make, but I’m really glad she opted out of it this year.  Anyway, we have been working on a nice hairstyle.  I love this little headband nestled in a bunch of curls.

So anyway, that’s where I’ll be this weekend.  With the BOYS!  Akk!  lol  I probably won’t get much of this project done, but when the hubs has to work, I have to do what needs to be done.  It’s OK–I have LOTS of goldfish!

Zucchinni says HI, and is begging for FOOD!  Little piggy!

potential projects–for ME!

Mother In Law bought me some GORGEOUS fat quarters from Amish Country.  I’m messing around with Electric Quilt software trying to come up with a plan.

I LOVE EQ!!  Here is another option.  Colors are kind of off, but it’s close.

Not sure which I prefer.  Hmmmm…..need to let this marinate a bit.

And I signed up to possibly get this fat 1/8th pack.
Hmm–kind of small.  But I can link you to it!  It’s by Bloomerie Fabrics.  I didn’t win the chance to use it for free, so I bought it.  Not quite sure what to do with it, but I know I want a hand project.  I have a weekend thing coming up, and my Hexi Project is too big now.  I really need to finish that.

Connecting Threads has a free download pattern of a English Paper Pieced Wedding Ring.  That could be interesting!

Or even just a honeycomb pattern.

Decisions Decisions!!   I hope that fabric is here by Thursday!!

Another FREE Paper Piece Pattern!

Yes folks, this is Big News #1!  I have another pattern ready for you all!!  I created an extra just in case I needed it.

Yup!!   The Monarch Butterfly that can go with the Lazy Daisy!  The SewHooked Garden party went SO well that I decided I’d better just release this!  An altered version of this will be a part of the 18″ super block I’m working on.

It’s hanging on my front door!  LOVE IT!  When the 4 part series is finished, I’ll release all blocks one at a time, block of the week style.
