Stars and stripes

This did not start out patriotic at all.   Even thought it DID turn out that way.  Sort of.  I bought the Fat Quarters from Connecting Threads WAY back when, with my Father In Law in mind.   He loves Blue.IMG_7758

That is the unfinished version.   I didn’t get real good pictures of it finished!!   Except this..IMG_7779

I put a pocket in this….Father In Law likes to keep his feet warm when he’s in the recliner!  IMG_7773

The kids personalized it.  IMG_7777

This poor quilt was supposed to be just big stars.   No stripes.   But I stopped sewing with 6 blocks left.  When I got back to it, I FORGOT that I had already hacked of the fat Quarter to make it square.   Oops.   SO I had to add the log cabin-ish piece to get them up to size.   And you know what??   I LOVE IT!!

There is no OOPS in quilting—-simply an opportunity to do something different!!963804_10151519878053884_2001371086_o

BrownEyed Boy loves it too!!

t-shirt quilt.

There was a horrible tragedy in my little community.  IMG_7750

I won’t go into details, but I will show the t-shirt quilt I threw together.  A friend showed up here with a stack of shirts and said HELP.  IMG_7749

She kept my house and kids, and I sewed.  Somehow, God guided my hands.   Not a single mistake was made; no flubs; it was perfect.IMG_7752

And in 6 hours, the grieving family had something to hold.  IMG_7753

Please keep this family in your prayers.  And go hug your babies.  You never know when a freak accident will take your loved ones.

a rag throw, and a quilt top

IMG_7736

16 half yards, and squares of batting.  SUPER wonky quilting for extra preteen interest, and there ya go!!IMG_7737

The back is great too, even if I DID get 2 fabrics next to each other.   LOL  oops.  IMG_7738

I will have a free tutorial up later this week to show you how I did it.

I also got some mail today!!   A friend got this at an Amish Auction for $17!IMG_7739

Awesome, isn’t it??   It’s not hand pieced, so I feel great putting it on the Long Arm to finish it off.   It has some interesting scraps in it.  Here I see Halloween and July 4th in the same block!IMG_7740

And the baseball is fairly new, but the rose print on the right looks fairly old.  IMG_7741

This is going to be so fun to quilt up.  The client wants purple.   Think I should go with a dark purple and make sure it pops, keeping motifs in their places, or should I do a lighter lavender?   Or even grey?   It will be purple on the back and the binding.  Let me know what you think!

Goal of the day 3/6/13

20130306_075648

1) I WILL have the hourglass top DONE today.  I have the rows for 2 of the big blocks made, and working on the last 2.  Still need to cut the sashings.

2) And the pup on the right will be appliqued and border blocks created from the fabrics laying there.  This will be a live auction item for the COA Cruisin’ with the Seniors event this Saturday.  If you’re local, bring a cool car or a motorcycle, enjoy some live music and shop, eat, or whatever!!!!

Quilts for Christmas

100_4500

Once again, the Moda 4Squared pattern comes to my aid.  The swirl pattern is meant to mimic the border print.100_4504

The flamingos, rose, and other large blocks are from t-shirts.100_4502

Check out this border!   Isn’t it gorgeous??   It’s on the back, too.100_4503

And Brother has one to match.

100_4498

Look at the geometric quilting on this!  It came out far better than I imagined it would.

100_4499

I wish I had full length pictures, but the rain made everything really gross.   I can’t risk ruining the quilts.   Labels go on today during Art Class, and they will go in the mail this week.  YAY!

Only a few more projects to go!

All Paths

Here is another original design.  I’m hoping to turn this into a for sale pattern.

The inspiration was a friend who needed a real pick-me-up.   Family issues, health issues, and yet she stays so strong.

Her faith in God is amazing.  She never seems to question Him like I do.   Total blind.   I can only aspire to be like her.

I used 2 charm packs, 2 fabrics 1 yard each, and some stuff from the stash for the borders.  The geese travel in 2 paths.   One on blue, and one on white.

In the center, I quilted a cross in gold.   The rest was a simple brown meander.  And the label…

I gave it to her, in public.  I’m a chicken!  LOL   The best way to avoid a “scene”!!  hehehehe  I’d have bawled!

I wish I had better full length pictures, but the wind would not cooperate.   This will have to be good enough!

I need to get through the Christmas orders, but then I’ll make sure that I get this pattern redone, tested, and hopefully out in January.

Now, I’m off to bed.   G’night ya’ll!!

Starting ANOTHER quilt!!

yes, yes, I know.   I have a MILLION projects going on.   But I’m not really DOING this one!!  I stumbled across a Mystery project.  The FB page is here, but I found them on a blog somehow.  And honestly, I can’t find it again!  ******edit*****  FOUND IT HERE  OOH!   And the original blog is My Sister Made Me Do It.  Thanks for writing about this in the first place!

Anyway, cancer has now touched my life several different times in just the past week, as well as in the past.  AND the girls have been begging for a new project.  So this was just about perfect. There is a $15 entry fee.  $5 stays for administration fees, but the other $10 goes directly to a patient.  In this case, he is a boy names Jack.  Thankfully, the large tumor that was taken from his brain turned out to NOT be cancer, but that wasn’t know at the time the group was set up.  And little Jack is still having many issues from brain surgery, so he is still a worthy recipient.

We dug through the stash for the yardage required–I was nervous about using scraps.

The first clue came yesterday afternoon.   I cut everything—they just can’t quite handle the Blade Of Doom yet!! Wild Child sewed the first half, and then ironed them.

Then the Apprentice took her turn.

And here is our stack after Step 1!!  Cant WAIT to see what Step 2 brings!!

I’d also like to link up with from blank pages.  There’s a linky party going on, and it’s all about New Beginnings.  She is also in the Whims and Fancies paper piecing halloween blog hop with me.  AND don’t forget to check out the many designers at The Quilting Gallery!!  There is still time to enter the fabric giveaway here on Butterfly Angels, too!!  HURRY!!
